This camera is much more advanced than his first one from the mid 80’s, there are so many more buttons & features that I’m gonna be the one doing the actual digitizing. I bought this product when it was new.It has a light for low light situations and a "night vision" mode for filming in complete darkness..It works great for what I am using it for, and sure it would work fine to make more tapes. I bought this camera solely to copy my HI-8 tapes on to my computer.I thought I would never be able to play those old tapes from high school again. It was thrown out. However, won’t play any of my old tapes.Yippie, my treasures are saved I have many Hi – 8 tapes and this is a replacement for the one I had.Love that I can now view my old 8mm family videos and finally convert them to DVD! This unit is doing a great job for my video tape to digital conversion project.Very Disappointed and will think twice before I buy used again.

I do like the efficient service I receive from Amazon…they deliver when they say they will and returns are handled nicely. Very happy with the camera. It was okay for it’s time but this "old school" camcorder, with it’s many moving mechanical parts, will jam up occasionally with 2 years of use.Very good. Great price and great service. But the process is very good. It’s a home camera.didn’t says hifi “MONO” sound until read fine print :oP.[/review3][review4] Good! The camera is broken ….

Ads said hifi sound….HAD A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING TAPE OUT.Replacement camera works good.I was shocked at all the DVD complaints I read here. good deal, good customer service I purchased this to transfer 8 mm to computer and I got exactly what I paid for.If you are looking for a general purpsose camcorder do not buy this one for the following reasons1.I try to charge the battery that did not work ,just stop working. The second thing I noticed is that the LCD screen moved to more places and that there was 2 record buttons. It’s a total waste of my hard-earned money. This is a truly low maintenance and low cost solution for your video recording needs if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on a digital set-up.I was so upset because I was sitting in the audience and couldn’t tape the final performance of the year.I found the TRV 138 to be half the size of my old unit and the batteries seem to last 3 times as long.It has the basic features, with NightShot as an additional bonus.Video quality was bad: output was noisey and reds were over saturated.
